I have a graveyard of dead Windows laptops in my garage that I have retired over the years. Now Mac is my preferred platform for my work and I understand better why the graybeards in my field were already there. Most of the team I was going to be joining were using MacOS, so I also went with a Mac (2020 iMac 27 inch at the time) just so there would be less friction with onboarding and using the same tools. When I changed jobs about 2 years ago I got a remote gig and had the option of buying my own work computer with company tech allowance funds. I used Ubuntu exclusively for a little while when I was in Grad School for Computer Science, but never really touched a Mac for any significant period of time. I was a devout Windows/PC user, starting with Win 3.1.
